Tolstraat 91 (673 74 30). map
One of the best in town, according to the jury of the Cannabis Cup. It has won several awards, so worth the detour from city centre. Greenhouse is a coffeeshop on two levels, with an upstairs pool room, and a colorful interior with beautiful mosaics throughout. Relaxed atmosphere and good food, for a coffeeshop at least.
Open daily 9am-1am.

Greenhouse Namaste
Waterlooplein 345 (622 54 99). map
For those not able or willing to make the trek to the Greenhouse in the Tolstraat they've opened a smaller branch on the Waterlooplein. Wonderful, bizarre 'spiritual' interior. Large outside terrace with a good view of the Amstel river, the Waterlooplein and city hall.
Open daily 9am-1am.

Grey Area Coffeeshop

Oude Leliestraat 2 (420 43 01). map
Close to city center in a small street on the edge of the Jordaan district you'll find the Grey Area Coffeeshop, winner of numerous Cannabis Cup awards. The shop is run by experienced smokers who are more than willing to share their wisdom with the customers. True to the roots of the owners service includes US style eighth-ounces (3.5 grams for the rest of us), and an excellent collection of bongs. A home away from home for a lot of US travellers, including a fair number of celebs.

Open daily 12am-8pm.

Homegrown Fantasy
Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 87a
(627 56 83). map
One of the largest selections of marijuana in Amsterdam, most of it Dutch in origin, hence the 'homegrown'. Very relaxed atmosphere and a nice sidewalk terrace.
Open noon-11pm (-12pm weekends).

Rosmarijnsteeg 9 (624 70 23). map
Cool coffeeshop with an upstairs chill area just off the Spuistraat. Get a seat in front of the window and watch pedestrians and bicyclists battle through the small alley. Jazzy dance sounds, and chocolate chip cookies which alone are worth the visit.
Open daily 10am-1am.

Eerste van der Helststraat 70
(657 26 17).
Small neighborhood coffeeshop just off the Albert Cuypmarket. Located slightly out of the center, this former winner of the Highlife Cup is certainly worth a visit. Sixties rock and a very relaxed atmosphere. A real local's hangout.
Open daily 11am-11pm (midnight weekends).

Other Side
Reguliersdwarsstraat 6 (625 51 41). map
An honorable mention for this gay coffeeshop, the only one in town. Friendly atmosphere, but the (loud) dance music will not be to everybody's liking.
Open daily 11am-1am.

Eerste Bloemdwarsstraat 2 (623 56 39). map
Beautiful bright Jordaan coffeeshop, which serves delicious health food besides the usual menu. Quite different from your ordinary coffeeshop.
